Flowing through Solin, the site of the ancient city of Salona, and winding its way to the historic city of Split, the river is a silent witness to centuries of history. As you cast your line into its waters, you are fishing in the same river that nourished Roman settlements and inspired countless legends.

Rainbow (Californian) trout

The rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is a species of fish. It is farmed in some places. Like species of trout, the rainbow trout is related to salmon. It is called a rainbow trout because its scales are colorful and shiny. Adult freshwater stream rainbow trout average between 0.5 and 2.5 kilograms (1 and 5 lb), while lake-dwelling and anadromous forms may reach 9 kg (20 lb).  Adult fish are distinguished by a broad reddish stripe along the lateral line, from gills to the tail, which is most vivid in breeding males.

Endemic soft mouth trout

This species spawns in the early spring and is an obligatory freshwater fish. The most obvious characteristic of the Adriatic trout is an elongated snout. It also has a small and fleshy mouth, relatively large scales and high body depth. The color of the body varies between subspecies, it is mostly green with red and black dots. There are no vertical stripes that are common in brown trout of the Adriatic Sea drainages that can be found.
